I am loving that Lyric is talking more! Kids always say the funniest things and I love that it gives me a good laugh. Last week I wrote this post about a couple of funny things Lyric had done. Here are a few more things she's said recently.

We were having scripture study the other night. We have just one of those cheap-o paperback Books of Mormon for her to use. She likes looking at the pictures in the front (or back?) and pointing at pictures and asking us "What's that?" She does know who "Jejus" is and always points Him out in the pictures. Well Lyric turned to the picture of Nephi and Lehi and their family on the boat. She pointed at Lehi, with a long white beard and hair, and exclaimed, "Santa!"
Lyric LOVES the movie "The Lion King." At the very beginning of the film, Simba is to be presented to the entire animal kingdom. Remember when Rafiki breaks open the fruit and brushes the insides across Simba's forehead and then sprinkles sand or dirt over it? Well this causes Simba to sneeze and every time Lyric watches this part she says "Bless you."
Lyric really likes to say goodbye to anyone and anything. If Colby or I, or a visitor, leaves our house or if we are visiting somewhere and it's time to leave, Lyric likes to tell them "Bye. See ya soon!" She doesn't do this to just people. Anything that leaves. Like if birds fly away she says, "Bye birdies. See ya soon!" She takes her two baby dolls with her to her room during quiet time. The other day when I went to get her out of her room, she turned to shut the door as we left the room and said "Bye babies. See you soon!"
The other day I asked Lyric what she wanted for dinner. Her response? "Ice cream! Yummy! Good! Lishous! (delicious)" On occasion she has told me that she wants "Fwies" for dinner.

Lyric is at a super fun, but challenging, phase of life. Her vocabulary has just taken off and she is now talking and chatting all day long...and we can actually understand her! The past couple of days she has said and done a couple of really cute things that I want to jot down so I can remember them.

Tuesday, November 29th

Every day Lyric loves to ask for her Elmo cup, filled with water, juice or milk. Today she asked for it and then decided to use that to play with her tea set that my parents gave her for her birthday. She poured a little liquid into a couple of tea cups and then carried those cups into our dining room and set them on the floor. (I was in the kitchen working) She then knelt down next to the cups and said "Heavenwy Faddah, dank you for day. Name Jejus Chwist, Amen!"

Wednesday, November 30th

We put our Christmas tree up on Monday night. As all parents of toddlers know, it is a struggle to keep their curious minds and hands off the tree. Lyric is no exception. She LOVES the bulbs on the Christmas tree! But she likes to take them off and pull the hook out and throw everything on the floor, which warrants a timeout in our house. Today I caught her pulling the bulbs off the tree so I quickly whisked her to timeout for 2 mins. After the 2 mins was over, I went and talked to her and asked/explained why she was in timeout, and then asked her to say sorry. She gives me kisses and hugs and says "Sowwy." She then leaves the timeout spot and goes and kisses the bulb on the Christmas tree (the one she was trying to pull off) and says "Sowwy."

Another doctor appointment today, another round of FOUR shots for my little Grey-baby. Poor little thing has got to have sore legs, but he's still just as smiley as can be! Here are his current stats:

Since Lyric was a baby, I have been searching for a product that removes all those nasty baby stains, but to no avail. Until now!

Formula stains? Gone!

Squash stains? Gone!

Blow-out poop stain that has been sitting for 3 months? GONE!

Even better is that it is ridiculously cheap and will last you for a long, long time! A whole bar is only a couple bucks. Yes, I realize I am a complete nerd that obsesses over a laundry product. Deal with it.

I took both the kids in this week to the pediatrician for their wellness checkups, Lyric for her 2 year and Greyson for his 2 month. Both kiddos are getting so big!

She still has that big head of hers! I think it is because she is so smart. All that knowledge has to fit somewhere!

In June we were able to go up to East Canyon and spend a Saturday there with my side of the family. Colby and I started the day off by playing a little doubles tennis against my mom and sister, Allie. We lost. Lyric ran around the court dodging tennis balls, until my other sister, Jen, rescued her and took her on a walk.

We played at the playground.

We went swimming.

We played miniature golf.

And Greyson just hung around all day being such a good baby!

Lyric has grown up SO much! Here is a little bit about her development during the past year:

She knows all of her ABC's
She is fearless! She will go down the tallest slide at the park all by herself and doesn't even think twice about being scared.
She talks nonstop. Some of her favorite words/phrases are: funny, apple, juice, food, hi, where go?, baby, there it is, all done, happy, purse
She knows how to do a somersault.
She loves to help unload the dishwasher. Even at someone else's house.
She likes to jump up and down and dance.
She loves giving hugs and kisses- especially to her little brother.
Her favorite songs are "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes" and "If You're Happy and You Know It". She knows all the actions and applauds herself after the song is over.
She knows how to eat with a fork/spoon and drink out of a big kid cup (no straw or spout)
She knows her numbers 1-10, only has a little trouble with the number 9.
She knows what sounds the cow, monkey, dog and cat make.
She knows mostly every body part. My favorite one she says is elbow and bum-bum.

We are amazed every day with how much she already knows and continues to learn! We sure love her and are so grateful she is a part of our family.

I can't believe our little Greyson is already 2 weeks old!

I took him in for his two week checkup yesterday and here is how he measures up:

Weight: 7 lbs 12 oz - 25th percentile
Length: 21 inches - 67th percentile
Head Circumference: 14.4 inches - 40th percentile

At his newborn weight check a week ago he only weighed 6 lbs 8 oz. So in one week he gained 1 lb 4 oz!! Holy smokes. Slow down little guy- don't get big too fast on me!!

We love him to pieces! Especially his big sister. Lyric loves to help out with the baby. She gives him kisses all the time and loves to hold him too. When she doesn't want to hold him anymore she pushes him away and says "Done." Haha. I love my kids!

Little Greyson was born one week ago on Friday the 13th! Funny story...do you remember how I was scheduled to be induced with Lyric and she came on her own the day before? Well I guess her little brother wanted to be just like her, because he came on his own the day before I was to be induced again! How crazy is that?! I guess scheduling an induction date scares my kids right out of me!

**Another funny note, Lyric came 8 days late and Greyson came 8 days early. Weird.**

Thursday the 12th I started feeling some contractions in the late morning/early afternoon. I was at lunch at India Fusion with my sister when I made the comment to her that I thought I was having contractions. I still enjoyed my Indian food though! Around 4:00 in the afternoon I started having a lot of lower back pain. I thought I was having back spasms until I realized it was occurring in my lower abdomen at the the same time. At 7:30 that evening I told Colby I should probably pay attention to how often these contractions happened in case this was real labor. I couldn't sleep all night long because the pain in my back was excruciating! So all night and into the next morning the contractions never got closer than 10 minutes apart. So I'm thinking false labor, which frustrated me beyond belief because my back was killing me! I decided to call my doctor when they opened to see what she thought I should do. It was decided for us to go in and be put on the monitor and to have my doctor check me again. I was on the monitor for probably around 45 minutes with no hard contractions and the baby was doing fine, so the nurse was going to send me home. Thankfully, my doctor still wanted to check me first before I left. Now, less than two days prior she had checked me and I was only at 1 cm and 40% effaced. Friday I was 4 cm and almost completely effaced! She said I could go home and wait or she could call the hospital and see if they had room to take me. I was like "Let's have this baby!!"

We got admitted into the hospital around 11:30 am. I got all hooked up, got my epidural (HALLELUJAH! My back could finally get a rest!) and waited for little G to arrive. I tested positive for group B strep so they needed to give me two doses of antibiotics before he came, so they waited to break my water until they administered the second dose in case he came too fast. It's a good thing they did! At 3:20 I was at a 6, they gave me the second dose of antibiotics and broke my water. About 30 minutes later the nurse rushed into check me and I was at a 10 and more than ready to deliver! Luckily my doctors office is only 2 minutes away from the hospital so they called her to come up quickly. She arrived just in time! About 45 seconds to 1 minute later Greyson was born at 4:00 PM! The umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck and so they whisked him away to do a check-up on him before I was able to hold him. That, combined with how fast everything went, really upset me for some reason which is why I started crying. *sigh* Gotta love hormones. Everything was fine though and I was surprised to find he was such a little guy, weighing only 6 lbs 10 oz.

We sure love him! He is ridiculously handsome and so content. Here are some pictures of the little guy.

Lyric is at a really fun age where she is starting to talk more and we are able to understand her a lot better too. She says the funniest things! I wanted to jot something down that she said last night.

We were around the table eating homemade pizza and orange julius that I made for dinner. I poured some orange julius into Lyric's cup, instead of the usual milk she drinks with her meals. She takes a few sips and gives Colby and I an inquisitive look, throws her hands out and says, "Where my milk?!"

Maybe you had to be there...but, trust me- It. Was. Hilarious.

Lyric's binky is officially history! The daytime binky went away over 7 months ago, so it was just the sleeping binky we had to deal with. My goal was to get rid of it by the time the little man arrived. So considering that he will be here in only 5 weeks or so...it's now or never! It seems like such a silly thing to be nervous about doing, but I seriously put it off for SO long because I was nervous about how she would react, and thus how it would affect me.

So far, the first full day has had it's ups and downs. When I put her to bed last night and showed her the "broken" binky, she was so confused! To be truthful, it made me a wee bit sad. I told her that because it was broken we should go throw it away. So we threw it in the garbage can and I put her in bed to read her a story, but she didn't like that. She went and got the binky back out of the garbage can! I could tell she was pretty upset because she didn't want me to read her a story or sing her a good night song. So I just tucked her in the best I could and walked out of the room to her screams. Fortunately, they only lasted for 3-4 minutes and then she went to sleep! She woke up this morning looking for her binky, saying "Where'd go?" I love listening to her talking more!

Bedtime wasn't what I was worried about though. She's always been great about going to bed at night. NAPS, however...I was very concerned about. Yeah, I was unfortunately right about that. She screamed and cried for AN HOUR! I cannot stand listening to her crying. I know no one loves listening to it, but it seriously stirs something up inside me that gets me frustrated and agitated! It took everything inside me to not do anything about it and just let her cry it out. I was about ready to go get her out of the room for the afternoon when I noticed she had stopped crying and she actually slept for about an hour!

Tonight, I tucked her into bed without ONE issue! She went right down- she let me read her a story and sing her a bedtime song! No crying either! WOOHOO!

My sister Jen invited Lyric and I along to the children's museum at the Gateway a few weeks ago. I got a lot of pictures of Lyric doing different things, but she didn't last at any one thing for more than 30 seconds! Lyric would have been one happy camper if I had let her play in the water area the entire time! She did not want to leave and kind of threw a fit when we attempted to move to a different area of the museum.

She would have preferred to twirl out on the helicopter deck the entire time too...

In Lyric's 20+ months of life she had yet to play out in the snow. With the 6 inches of snow that we got here in the valley this past Friday night, we thought Saturday would be the perfect day for that to change! Despite the look on her face in most pictures, she really did have fun. She even got upset with me for making her come inside!

Today poor Lyric got her first black eye. Not a milestone I was wanting her to have reached at such a young age!

Kids are just too curious sometimes! Lyric pulled on a lamp cord that sat atop a shelf in our living room. The lamp came tumbling down on her hitting her right in the face. It gave her a good gash and a puffy, black eye. Poor thing! I'm just grateful that it didn't hit her any farther up or else it could have done damage to her eye. It just makes me so sad!! Colby said it gives her character. He is such a dad.

Lyric slept in her big girl bed for the first time last night!

She loves her new bed and couldn't stop climbing all over it once Colby got it all put together. The first night couldn't have gone any better! She climbed right under the covers, I sang her a goodnight song and she went right to sleep. She didn't wake up at all during the night or get out/fall out of the bed either! In fact, she slept as good as she ever has... 12 1/2 hours! About 7:30 this morning we heard her knocking on her bedroom door letting us know she was awake. It was so cute! I'm hoping that since I've kept her bedtime routine the same since she was a baby that this transition will continue to go smoothly.

Last week, I went for another ultrasound since our first wasn't as successful as they were hoping for. So I got a few more pictures of the little guy.

Christmas 2010

Better late than never! That's what I always say.

On Christmas Eve the three of us went to our traditional breakfast at IHOP. So yum! Afterwards, we headed to Colby's parents house for the afternoon for games, movies and opening presents. Lyric got some great gifts from the Christensen side of the family. She got some bath toys, a snow suit and boots and a Busy Ball Popper toy.

After presents, we headed to the Osborn's for the traditional Christmas Eve dinner of homemade fish n' chips! DOUBLE YUM!! I seriously look forward to that dinner for months. We enjoyed dinner and visited for a little bit before heading home with one tired toddler. Lyric opened her Christmas Eve jammies, which were a wee bit big for her, and put them on and got right into bed.

Christmas morning we all slept in! We had Monkey bread, scrambled eggs and juice for breakfast. Lyric looked at what Santa brought her and her favorite was the M&M candy cane she could use as a shaker. To sum up Lyric's feeling about Christmas morning- she hated it. She cried. A lot. And we aren't sure why. She did not want to open presents. She wanted to be in an entirely different room. We finally resorted to blocking off her escape path from the room. Never did we imagine that our Christmas morning would go like that.

Colby and I got Lyric this little reading/TV chair. Is it not just so cute?!Colby's family came over in the afternoon for food and to play games. That evening we headed to my parents house to talk with my little brother, Jon, who is serving his mission in California. This year was especially cool because we were able to video Skype with him instead of just a phone call! Besides pictures, he hasn't seen Lyric since she was 2 months old, so he was able to see her live and how big she is getting. She even said some of her words for him too! I thought she would have been too shy, but she pulled it off.

We had a great Christmas! Hard to believe we will be a family of four next Christmas!

So last night I was at Target picking up a few things. I walked past the kids section and saw they had their swimsuits out already- crazy! I know. But nonetheless, I saw a super adorable swimsuit for her so I picked it out for this summer. This morning I pulled it out of the bag to show her.

Me: "Lyric, do you want to see the new swimsuit Mommy got you?"

(I pull it out of the bag and hold it up to show it off)

Me: "So what do you think?"

Lyric: "Tute! (Cute)"

I just love her.

Yesterday Funnies

Lyric was being so funny yesterday! (Not funny though was her deciding not to take a nap.) I wanted to record a couple of the funny things she said and did.

I was working on my computer in the living room while she was playing with her toys and watching PBS. I turned around to check on her and make sure she was okay. At that same time, she proceeded to put her play purse over her shoulder, told me "Bye!" and walked to the front door. 18 months old going on teenager!!

I was having a less than fabulous day yesterday. After dinner was over Colby picked Lyric up in his arms and came over and they gave me hugs. We had this conversation:

Colby: "Lyric, Mommy is having a bad day. Let's give her hugs. Can you tell Mommy 'Love you?' "

Lyric: swings her arm as though trying to hit my face.

Me (being the dramatic person that I am): "Lyric doesn't love me. She just wants to slap me."

Colby (the only sane one in the household): "Oh honey. Lyric slaps me too."

Me: "Nu-uh. Not when you I ask her to say, 'Daddy, love you.'

Me: "Lyric can you tell Daddy 'Love you?' "

Lyric: "adjuu ykjlkgu" (something that resembled trying to say "Love you.")

Me: "See. I told you."

Colby: "Lyric, can you tell Mommy 'Love you?' "

Lyric: "bijub mi." (sounding exactly like BITE ME)

Such a funny girl! We sure do love her and her major 'tude.

We didn't get many great shots of the little man because he was really good at hiding up in my belly. Fortunately, he wasn't shy about showing us he's a boy! I am scheduled to go back in a month for a follow-up ultrasound because they weren't able to see his heart, face or the placenta very well. So they are going to wait until he is a little bigger to check these things and make sure everything looks okay. Hopefully we can get some better pictures of the little guy!

Lyric woke up yesterday morning and decided she was going to take a test run of the "terrible two's." Here are a few of the fun things I experienced from the little lady:

Pulled all the garbage out of the trash can and spread it all over the dining room floor.
Opened the freezer door. Pulled ice cubes and food out of the freezer and left it out on the kitchen floor. She also left the freezer door wide open.
Ran around the house with the toilet bowl brush in tow.
Unwrapped and took apart a messy diaper.

Nursery

Lyric went to nursery for the first time yesterday! I tried to get a picture of her before we left for church (not that a nursery picture looks any different from any other Sunday), but that just did not happen! Pictures of her are becoming few and far between because she doesn't allow me to take them of her. When she sees me pull the camera out she runs right up to me and says "Cheese!" A close-up shot of her nostrils is about all I would get.

Anyway...NURSERY! Hip, hip...Hooray!

Colby and I have been looking forward to this for so long! Lyric did fairly well for her first time in a class with kids who are 2-3 times her size. She got bored during the first hour when all they do is play with toys. She has an extremely short attention span! But she did better in the second hour when they have a little more structure: lesson, snack time, singing time, etc. There were a few tears shed when I left her after a little bit, but she got over those quickly.

We cannot believe how grown-up our little Lyric has become! The time is going by so SO fast. Before we know it, she will be a big sister!

I'm way behind on posting, so here are a few pictures of the little lady to get caught up on a few things we have done the past several weeks.

This was really nothing in particular, but Lyric loves to run! She gets that from her daddy. :)
Lyric was the cutest little ladybug for Halloween! She discovered a love of candy. I was very impressed how fast she caught on to actually putting the candy in her bucket.Feeding the ducks at Hogle Zoo. She was very intrigued by the ducks swimming beneath her feet. And that white swan seriously almost took her shoe!

Lyric cannot get enough of slides! This is the Dino Town play area at South Town Mall. She has proven to be a tough little cookie, running around with all the bigger kids. She gets knocked down, but gets right back up and continues on!This tree house slide is her absolute favorite! She climbed up here time after time after time. I can't believe how fast my baby is growing up! 3 more weeks and she will be in Nursery. So crazy!!

A few weeks back Lyric and I went to California with Colby's family. Unfortunately, Colby had to stay behind because of work and school. We sure missed him! But we did have a lot of fun.

DISNEYLAND!

Lyric did amazingly way the whole day at Disneyland! She loved all the rides we took her on, including: Pirates of the Caribbean, Peter Pan, Haunted Mansion, Alice in Wonderland, Dumbo, among others. Throughout the length of the ride she would continuously say "Weeee!" She really had so much fun. And I had a blast taking her and see her eyes wide with amazement!

We celebrated Colby's parents 3o year wedding anniversary by going out to dinner at Joe's Crab Shack. Yummy seafood!

First Haircut

Lyric's first haircut was long overdue! But it finally happened this week.

It's too short to put into the usual pigtails or "Bam-Bam" ponytail, so we are trying the curly look. On Saturday night we were able to go up Millcreek Canyon with some friends in our ward. We built a campfire and cooked dinner and roasted marshmallows. I love me a good toasted 'mallow!

After this canyon day trip, I'm not sure I want to attempt an overnight camping trip. It was so hard to keep her out of stuff! She's not a confident enough walker to walk on uneven ground so that made it hard because she wanted to crawl all through the dirt and by the fire. Perhaps camping will have to wait for next year!

Lyric's Birthday Party

On Wednesday, June 23rd we got all our family together and had a little birthday party to celebrate Lyric's first year of life.

For Lyric's birthday, Colby and I gave her one of these cars that the kid rides in while an adult pushes it. Lyric absolutely LOVES it!! I'm so glad we got it for her.

We invited both our sides of the family to join us for dinner and cake.

Lyric did surprisingly well at opening up her gifts. As usual, she liked the paper more than the actual gift!
I decorated this cake especially for Lyric. I wasn't in love with how it turned out, but I knew that she was going to destroy in only a few short hours.

It took her a while to dig in, but she eventually did and loved it! I was cleaning chocolate out of her nose for a few days after that. :)
She had a great birthday party! We are so happy to have Lyric with us in our family. We can't believe she is already 1 year old!

Lyric had her 1 year check-up at the pediatrician this week, including another round of shots. The shots were, again, hard on her and myself. When the first shot went in her left arm, she looked straight at me as big tears started to well in her eyes. It broke my heart! Poor thing.

We are so blessed to have a healthy and active little girl! We enjoy watching her discover the world around her. She loves to get into EVERYTHING! By the end of day, it looks as though a tornado has ripped through our house. But I have learned to not let it bother me (most days) and just enjoy her sweet little innocence for as long as I can. We cannot imagine our lives without our little Lyric!

Peck Family Reunion

On Saturday we attend the First Annual Peck Family Reunion! It was fun to see all of my mom's side of the family. Our little family had such a fun time!

The event began with a family game of kick ball- which I failed to take any pictures of. Boo me. Unfortunately, I had a little mishap with my weak knee (yet again!) and I was put on the injured list the rest of the game. Fortunately though, Colby and I were on the winning team!

Lyric competed in the Diaper Derby and won the crawling portion. She's a fast little thing!

The second part of the Diaper Derby was Walking-with-the-assistance-of-a-parent. Whew! I don't think there was an official winner in this race. Lyric kept on going through the finish line and didn't want to stop.
Next, we played (I attempted with a bad knee) a fun game of volleyball! Colby and I were captains for one of the teams. Here is my man serving for our side. It was a battle between both teams, but our side came away with the win!

Lyric was perfectly content to play in the grass all by herself. She would crawl a few steps and jibber jabber away as though she was carrying on a conversation with herself. Then she would abruptly sit up, continuing to chatter all the while, look around and pull a silly face and then start crawling off somewhere again. She is so funny!

There was also a family 5K Walk, Run, Bike event. Colby came in first place of the runners. Following close behind was my brother-in-law David Clyde, and then right behind him was my sister Allie.

My sister, Tara, and my mom were the first walkers to finish.

The evening ended by playing some rousing rounds of BINGO! Throughout the days events, we earned bingo cards by participating in the activities and also if you won an event. I was awarded a few extra cards for my enthusiasm. :) Combined Colby, Lyric and I had 15 bingo cards! We played 7 rounds total. Lyric won during the kids round and her prize was one of those squishy tomatoes that splats all over when you throw it against something. She thought it was funny!

My unlucky streak in bingo ended this year! I won a $25 gift certificate to C. Kay Cummings Candies, along with my aunt's homemade caramel pretzels dipped in chocolate. Yum!

We had such a fun time and enjoyed the beautiful weather outside! We can't wait until next year!!

I wanted to write down this funny little thing Lyric did this morning, so I won't forget it in the future. I hope it's not foreshadowing what's to come.

Colby and I have been trying real hard to teach Lyric to keep her food on her tray and not throw it on the floor. She gets one warning, where we take her tray away for a minute. After the minute is up, we put her tray back on and let her resume eating, if she does. If she throws her food the second time, we take her tray away for good and say "All done."

So anyway, this morning I'm giving Lyric breakfast. She eats all of her blueberry muffin and then I decide to give her some mandarin oranges, which she loves. I put a few chunks on her tray and she picks one up in her right hand. She then proceeds to put her hand out to the side of the tray, look me straight in the eyes and drop the orange on the floor.

Funny? Yes. But I had to keep a straight face. This little girl is a handful! But I love her to pieces.

Disneyland 2010

Colby and I had the opportunity to get away for a few days...alone.

Destination: Disneyland!

Thanks to my parents for watching Lyric- we had a great time!!

But we missed our little Lyric so much.

Colby and Capn' Jack Sparrow standing in line for Pirates of the Caribbean. I love this ride because the line is always short. And after a lot of walking all day long, it sure felt good to sit down for a long boat ride.

We watched a show at the California Adventure Park and were able to see Woody, Mickey Mouse and Sleeping Beauty. Other Disney characters we saw throughout the parks were: Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, Pluto, Chip and Dale, Buzz Lightyear, Mary Poppins and Bert, Mr. Incredible, Frozone (from The Incredibles), Winnie the Pooh, Tigger and the Mad Hatter. I can't remember everyone we saw because there were so many!
One of the best rides was Toy Story Mania at California Adventure Park. You wear the awesome 3D glasses and play several games throughout the ride. If you're planning a trip to the parks anytime soon, you should give it a whirl! It was a lot of fun!
It was a quick two days, but for two young able bodies such as us, it was plenty of time to see and do everything we wanted. I can't wait to go back again!

Growing up, I saw and learned how my parents budgeted their money and it always made so much sense to me. Colby and I have tried several different ways to budget our money, but nothing ever worked out or made much sense to me. So finally, I just told him that I wanted to try my parents budgeting method. A few months ago, I asked my mother to help me re-vamp The Christensen Family budget. We were in need of much help, especially with the addition of Lyric the past year and Colby starting school at the U. in January.

While my mom and I were figuring out how much to budget each month for my families specific needs, we came upon a discussion about tithing. The infamous question came up- do you pay tithing on your gross or net income? Colby and I have always paid tithing on our net income, but whilst discussing said topic with my mother, I began to wonder if we really should start paying tithing on our gross income. Colby and I ultimately made the choice to pay on our gross, because we felt that was what the Lord would want us to do.

Last Monday, Colby received word that he had received a Federal Pell Grant that will cover nearly all of his tuition for the Fall 2010 and Spring 2011 semesters! We were ecstatic!! I am SO behind on blog posts! So this will be a longer post than normal, but fortunately it will contain mostly pictures of my cute little bugaboo. And since her cuteness is irresistible...it will be worth the while. :-)

Lyric loves the stairs! Not so much going up or down them, but playing at the bottom two steps. She jibber jabbers all the time when she is here- almost as though she is carrying a conversation with the stairs. It's really quite funny.

With the warmer temperatures we've had the past couple of weeks, I have opened up our house windows and let Lyric look outside. Another favorite spot of hers.
Lyric is 10 months old!! She is eating all sorts of big people food now and loving every bite. Especially when it is super messy and she can smear it all over her face.
A couple of Saturday's ago we went to West Jordan Park and had a picnic with our friends, the Mecham's, who were in town from Louisiana. (I didn't get a picture of all of us with my camera, but I know they did. I will have to steal a picture from them when I get a chance.)

Lyric enjoyed her veggie straws and string cheese from her make-shift Frisbee plate. Silly mom forgot a real one!

Last week I took Lyric to the zoo with some of our friends.

We saw the new baby elephant, Zuri.

Lyrics favorite part was probably the train ride. I can't blame her though- that was my favorite part of the zoo when I was a kid.

Sick Baby

This is what Lyric and I did a lot of last week.

She was sick a lot of last week, and just barely started feeling better this morning. She had a high fever of nearly 102 degrees F. and you could just see it in her eyes that she just was not feeling good. Her fever would come and go throughout the day. She wanted me to hold her all the time and loved me rocking her to sleep for her naps. I love that she wants me and needs me, but it was hard because I didn't have time to do other things that needed to be done, and I had to be inside at home all the time. It was just a reminder to me about how great of a duty and responsibility all parents have. I was entrusted with this little girl to take care of and raise her. I got upset with myself a few times for getting frustrated with her- but I think it's a true testament of how much I do love her. And I do!

Lyric took a lot of baths while she was sick. It was her favorite thing, and the closest thing I had to a break for several days. She likes to look and talk to herself in that silvery, shiny thing.
I know this is blurry, because she is clapping her hands, but I had to post it because I love the face she is pulling!

Lyric is a baby...going on TEENAGER! Without fail, I can always get Lyric calmed down or distracted by giving her my cell phone. Which has once resulted in the loss of a phone. You would think I would learn, right? I should...but really this tactic never fails.

Easter and a New Challenge

I totally slacked off on Lyric's Easter basket this year, even though Colby reassured me that she wouldn't care, let alone, even remember. I just didn't know what to put in a basket for a little girl who can't eat candy yet! (Growing up, our baskets were filled purely with candy and no little trinkets or gifts) The Easter Bunny decided on bringing her a little stuffed animal and a Baby Einstein video.
Luckily, Colby's family pulled through with an Easter present for her! She really loved the balloons on top the most.
Colby's family came over after General Conference on Sunday for the annual Whopper Egg Spinning Contest! It's become quite the competitive competition. My camera died right as I was trying to get a picture of the egg-spinning madness, but there is always next year!

Most recent challenge: Lyric has discovered the stairs and is now trying to climb up them. This is her new favorite place in the house!

St. George Trip

Hooray for vacations! We were able to go to St. George with Colby's family during the second week of March (yes, I do realize this post is past due). We were able to have some fun in both the rain and sun!

Our trip down began Tuesday afternoon after Colby got off work. Bad idea. The weather was not pleasant. Lyric slept for the first 1 1/2 hours of the trip and then was awake the rest of the time. Unfortunately, she was not as pleasant as I was hoping....

...But we started her early on her quest to be a child genius.

Lyric went swimming for the very first time and LOVED it! We were fairly confident she would, since she goes crazy with the water in her bath.Colby and his dad went into the big pool...even though it was freezing!! I stayed in the warm kiddie pool with Lyric. I'm no fool.Lyric and her friend Marvin the turtle. She wasn't so fond of him at first, but warmed up to him as time went by.Say CHEESE!! We went to breakfast one morning at a place called Bear Paw. Very yummy french toast! Lyric was being a ham the entire time we were there. I love her front little beaver teeth.Part of the fun in the rain involved go-karts at the Fiesta Family Fun Center. Lyric and I cheered on daddy. The last day we were there the weather was beautiful! So we went to Snow Canyon and hiked around a bit. Lyric loved riding around in the backpack, and was so content the entire time.We decided to stop at the Sand Dunes on our way out of the canyon. I was picturing Lyrics first experience with sand/dirt a little bit differently...

9 Months Old!!

Wow! These past 9 months have just flown right by. It feels like this time has gone twice as fast as it did the 9 months I was actually pregnant with Lyric. Funny how that works.

I sure love this girl!

I took her to her 9 month check-up today and her stats are as follows:

Weight: 18 lbs 15 oz. (54th percentile)

Length: 27.5 inches (49th percentile)

Head Circumference: 17.8 inches (83rd percentile)

She is just the sweetest and funniest girl you will ever meet! She is constantly making us laugh. Here is a little more about her:

She has 4 teeth, both her top two and bottom two. Two more of her top teeth are just barely starting to cut through. She will have 6 teeth before we know it!
She has started to self-feed herself. She loves picking up food and examining it thoroughly before putting it into her mouth. She has loved every food I have given her so far, except for potatoes. I'm guessing it is a texture issue. Hopefully she will grow out of it and realize the goodness of the potato, but if not, oh well- it will serve her greatly later in life. :)
She is officially on the go! She upped and started crawling last week. She was a little timid about crawling all the time, but now we can't get her to stop! If it's possible to have the most adorable crawl, then Lyric would win- hands down! Below is a video of the little bean.

She is babbling a lot and has started to say "da da"- although we don't know for sure that she associates "da da" with Colby. She said her first word a couple of weeks ago- the magical word was "Yes." Again, we can't be sure she knew she was saying it, but it was clear as glass that she said it. She was playing with her socks at the dinner table and so I said to her, "Lyric, are you playing with your sockies?!" She looked up at me and said, "Yes." NO JOKE! It was hilarious. Definitely the highlight of my day.
She continues to love bath time. It is her favorite part of the day! She squeals and almost leaps out of my arms the second I turn the bath faucet on.
She loves it, and I mean LOVES it, when I turn the music on and we start dancing. She claps her hands and starts giggling and squealing and bouncing. So much fun!

We are so thankful to Heavenly Father for blessing us with this sweet little girl. Our lives are so full of joy with her a part of it. We love you Lyric!

Discovery Gateway

On Wednesday, the Discovery Gateway Museum had a free admission day for everyone! So naturally everyone went. Or so it felt like. Lyric and myself included. As well as my mom, my sister-in-law and her two boys. It's not really designed for kids Lyric's age, but nonetheless, it was a free activity and she still seemed to have a good time!

4 Years of Wedded Bliss

Today we are celebrating our 4 year wedding anniversary.

We are leaving for St. George right after I pick Colby up from work today, so we will celebrate our anniversary another day. But he was so thoughtful to not let the day go by unnoticed, that he surprised me with these beautiful orange roses last night. He also wrote me a sweet little note too. In the midst of a long day of work and school, he still found time to do something special for me for our anniversary. Thanks Babe! The flowers are gorgeous. Love you lots!In our third year of marriage, we added this sweet little darlin' to our family. We love her to pieces!

Week in Review

We went to my parents house for dinner on Sunday. Nothing is better than mom's home cooking! Roast beef, mashed potatoes and green bean casserole...so good! We watched the USA vs. Canada Gold Medal hockey game during dinner. Rarely do my parents allow TV during a Sunday dinner. It was awesome.
Our week pretty much was all about Lyric being sick. Took her to the doctor on Wednesday learned she had bronchiolitis. Was told they can't do much to treat it. Lots of fluids, run a humidifier. Her pediatrician said that if it got worse to come back in.
Learned a few new things:

The cool water from using a Cool Mist Humidifier can be a good breeding ground for mold and bacteria. I'm glad I have a Steam Vaporizer!
RSV can cause bronchiolitis.

Took Lyric back to the doctor on Saturday morning because I felt her condition was worsening. She probably had RSV which is why she had bronchiolitis. They gave her a breathing treatment which she absolutely hated. I had to hold the mask over her nose and mouth while pinning her arms to her side and holding her head still. Wow! A lot of work for one person to do to a fidgety and squirmy baby. She cried, I felt bad- but we got through it. They gave me a prescription for an Albuterol inhaler for her. I give it to her three times a day. She hates that too.
Colby and I are almost done with the first season of Lost. Colby makes fun of me because the show scares me. I'm used to it. For those of you who have seen Lost, you will understand when I say that Ethan is creepy! I was headed to the bathroom the other night right before bed and Colby said to me, "Watch out for any Ethan's." I decided not to go to the bathroom after all.

To be frank...today has been crappy. Reason? Lyric is sick. She has had a really horrible congested cough and stuffy/runny nose. Because of this, she woke up 4 times between the hours of 11:30 PM and 4:30 AM and then wouldn't sleep the rest of the morning unless I held her. So I held her and let her doze off and on for another couple hours. I tried to sleep while I held her but no luck...I should really get a more comfortable rocking chair for occasions such as these.

With all the kids I've heard about who have RSV, including my nephew, I decided to take Lyric into her pediatrician to have her looked at. Luckily, she doesn't have RSV but she does have bronchiolitis. My poor baby! Her poor little body just shakes when she coughs. It makes me so sad that I can't do anything to help her. The worst part about it all, for her and me, is she coughs so hard that she throws up- this happened three times today, and once on Monday. And all 4 times have been on me. Yep...it's my favorite new scent.

I just hope she gets better soon! I don't know if I have any tears left to cry.
